Shoppers aim for Target as Placerville location opens

A soft opening of the new Target store in Prospector’s Plaza in Placerville drew a number of shoppers Wednesday. Some even waited in line to be the first in when the store opened at 8 a.m. The grand opening is set for Sunday but that didn’t stop anyone from coming earlier as was obvious from the packed parking lot.

Eager shoppers get ready to start your engines because the new Target store in Placerville is set to open. Target management is planning a soft opening Aug. 12 and a grand opening Aug. 16. Details on a possible grand opening celebration were not available by press time. Already sporting a Starbucks bar near the entrance, the shelves were in and mostly stocked Wednesday — although the mannequins still needed clothes. The department store is in the process of hiring employees with applications taken at a desk inside the front entrance.

More tenants in negotiations for Placerville center, plans suggest

It appears an upcoming Target store has led several major retailers to consider joining a Placerville shopping center. GC Placerville LLC, a joint venture of Gryphon Capital and Rich Development Co., bought Prospector’s Plaza on Missouri Flat Road in June. The purchase price for the 19.87-acre center was $24.13 million, according to records from real estate data service Reonomy.

Target filling former Kmart space in Placerville

Target will fill an empty former Kmart space at a retail center in Placerville, and other property improvements are in the works. Chris Shane, a managing partner with Gryphon Capital of Manhattan Beach, said the vacancy in Prospector’s Plaza lined up perfectly with a big-box store looking for a new location.

New Target Store To Fill Spot Of Shuttered Kmart At Placerville Shopping Center

A new Target store is in the works for Placerville. Gryphon Capital and Rich Development announced back in June that they had bought Prospector’s Plaza, which is right off of Highway 50. As part of their announcement, the developers also announced plans for a new Target store that will open at the shopping center. The new, 86,414 square-foot Target will be filling in the old spot of a Kmart store that closed in 2018.
